I grew up in Millville. I am a member of the fire company. I enlisted in the US Navy in 1975. I retired in 1998 after 23 years of service. I am currently the 2nd Assistant Fire Chief in Ashaway, Rhode Island. I am also a HAZMAT Tech on the regional HAZMAT Team. Additionally, I am a EMT Basic. I am employed locally as a Corporate Network Administrator.
We cover 20 square miles in southern Rhode Island with a 3000 gallon Tanker, 2 1000 gallon engines, a heavy rescue, a brush truck, a rescue boat and a UTV. We average over 300 runs per year. Our web site is www.ashawayfire.org.
Update Jan 2013. In July 2012 we placed an order for a rescue\pumper to replace our rapidlly aging heavy rescue and our oldest pumper. Like most volunteer departments manpower during day time hours Monday thru Friday is slim. After many hours of discussion we decided our best bet would be a combination unit. We expect delivery in late March or early April. Ferrara Fire Apparatus is building the truck for us.
If you plan to travel into New England and want to stop by get my number from my father Richard Sr or my brother Ronnie and I would be happy to show you around the station and the trucks.
